Distribution units
Long-term vision and planning
During the late 1990s, as demand for electricity increased dramatically, many early distribution systems struggled to cope with the added stress. At the same time, parks and holiday villages grew exponentially, which required more stringent servicing than what was on offer from an average installer. Seeing this market gap for a proficient installer, Hawkins Electrical formed its infrastructure division that comprised industry-leading personnel in major distribution networks. Together, they constituted an expert team for designing, installing, altering, upgrading and maintaining installations up to 20,000 kVA.
Our business acumen, coupled with a high level of expertise, ensured our rise to market leaders and repeat custom from countless clients. Failures and problems can cripple a business and its reputation; therefore, recovery must be fast and efficient, which necessitates expert distribution technicians with years of practical experience gained through working on robust projects.
Complete infrastructure services
- System design, from arranging a new supply with the distribution network operator (DNO) to designing the low voltage distribution around the park
- Design and manufacture of mains panels to suit individual site loadings
- Design and supply of glass-reinforced plastic (GRP) mains rooms, including design and construction of concrete bases for transformers and mains panels
- Enhancement of park infrastructure to cater for future needs
Mains panels boards and distribution units
Our range of mains panels boards and fused distribution units are built to accept the increased cable sizes that are normally associated with caravan parks and marina installations, where voltage drop must be combated. When these distribution boards are installed, sufficient space must be left around them to provide safe access to the equipment. When ordering these mains fused distribution boards, it is essential to allow for future expansion. We follow a general rule of allowing for 25% extra space at the outset, which can be fitted with the switchgear in the future.
We offer a range of GRP mains room enclosures to cater for every size of distribution panel. These can be tailored to suit any site and location. Our range of mains and distribution equipment can be adapted to the individual needs of developments. Our units are designed not only for present use but also with any future expansion in mind.
The sophisticated switchgear system conceals controls and cable terminations within lockable cabinet doors. Switchgear available ranges from 63 A to 1250 A, with units capable of receiving up to 630 mm² single core incoming and 300 mm² four-core outgoing cables.
Fused distribution units
The fused distribution unit, the mainstay of the park electrical system, provides safe and secure distribution and protection for multiple outgoing circuits using BS88 fuses, overcoming the unique circuit conditions within holiday parks. The units allow the termination of armoured underground cables to 300 mm² four-core cables while providing the relevant protection to outgoing circuits. Provision for time clocks, photocell lighting controls and ancillary equipment can be made during manufacture.
